Blustery winds and rain to affect Carolinas

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Blustery winds nearing tropical storm strength and as much as 4 inches of rain are expected along the Carolinas coast as a storm system that drenched parts of Florida moves north.

No Child Left Behind-SC, Delay

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina will delay until February a request for a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind law. The state Education Department had planned to request the break from the federal law in November. Agency spokesman Jay Ragley said Monday that will give the agency more time to gather data and see how other states file their requests.

Dad Killed While Walking Alongside Bike-Riding Son

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) _ A father walking alongside his 12-year-old son as he rode his bike in Pickens County has been struck and killed by an SUV. Authorities said 38-year-old Michael Cummings died a short time after he was struck around 6:15 p.m. Friday on a rural road about six miles north of Pickens.

Kershaw Deputies Investigate Shooting

At approximately 2:30 am Sunday morning Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of a shooting in the Lugoff community. One individual had been shot three times and died as a result of those injuries. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says that deputies were dispatched to a residence located at 63 Trinity School Rd. in Lugoff, SC following reports of a shooting.

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — About 400 members of a South Carolina Army National Guard signal battalion are being honored this weekend for their year of service in the Mideast and Afghanistan.

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ A Bennettsville mother and her boyfriend are charged with neglect following the death of her 3-year-old child. Bennettsville police said Friday the investigation into the toddler's death continues.
