Behind an eight-run fifth inning and two four-run innings, Clemson defeated Western Carolina 19-2 at Hennon Stadium on Tuesday. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the home-and-home season series, improved to 12-11. The Catamounts dropped to 9-12.
Patrick Rooks will transfer from Clemson, Head Coach Brad Brownell announced Monday. Rooks played in 13 games and scored 20 points in 2014-15 after redshirting his first season with the program due to a hip injury. Rooks’ biggest contribution came in a win over High Point on Nov. 28, when he scored 11 points in 12 minutes off the bench.
Clemson returned to the practice fields Monday afternoon, the squad’s first workout in 12 days. The team scattered to sites around the country along with the rest of the Clemson student body for Spring Break a week ago last Friday. Chris Okey’s grand slam with two outs in the 10th inning lifted Clemson to a 4-0 victory over Virginia Tech at English Field on Friday. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in the ACC. The Hokies dropped to 11-11 overall and 4-3 in ACC play.
Clemson Athletics received final approval Wednesday from the South Carolina Budget and Control Board to begin renovation of Littlejohn Coliseum. The Board approved the construction project and issuance of bonds for the project, which is slated to cost $63.5 million to be financed completely by the athletic department and IPTAY. The project previously received approval from the Clemson Board of Trustees and the Joint Bond Review Committee.
CONWAY, S.C. – David Parrett’s grand slam highlighted Coastal Carolina’s five-run third inning in its 9-5 victory over Clemson in front of a stadium-record crowd of 2,825 at Springs Brooks Stadium on Tuesday night. The Chanticleers improved to 14-6, while the Tigers dropped to 9-10. It was Clemson’s first game in Conway since 1994.
The 2015 version of South Carolina Football took to the practice fields for the first of 15 spring practices on Tuesday afternoon. Perfect weather conditions greeted the squad, as it worked out on the new practice fields, located on the west end of Gamecock Park, for the first time.
Former Clemson men’s tennis player Jay Berger will be inducted into the ITA Men’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame as part of its class of 2015, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced last week. The enshrinement ceremony for Berger and the five other members of the class is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, and takes place during the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships hosted by Baylor in Waco, Texas.
