South Carolina leads the U.S. in measles cases — here’s what local health experts are saying

17 new measles cases have been reported in South Carolina since Tuesday, say health officials.
A leading U.S. health official on Sunday urged people to get inoculated against the measles at a time of outbreaks across several states and as the United States is at risk of losing its measles elimination status.

SC health officials have confirmed there is now 29 new cases of measles in the state of South Carolina.
Measles numbers in the state continue to grow as more cases are reported.
The South Carolina measles outbreak has surpassed the recorded case count in Texas’ 2025 outbreak, as health officials have logged almost 600 new cases in just over a month.
The amount of measles cases in the state related to the Upstate outbreak continues to climb as more cases are being reported, says SCDPH.
