FBI Director Christopher Wray’s former chief of staff has been named the interim U.S. attorney for South Carolina. Corey F. Ellis was appointed to the role Tuesday by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
On Tuesday, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina M. Rhett DeHart announced that South Carolinians lost more than $30 million to cyber criminals in the past year, according to the 2020 Internet Crime Report. The report prompted DeHart to urge South Carolinians to be vigilant and aware of scams, so they do not become victims.
In a statement released Monday, M. Rhett DeHart was named acting United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. The move comes after current U.S. Attorney Peter M. McCoy Jr. announced his resignation, effective 11:59 p.m. on February 28.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–Former 5th Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson’s Communications Director, Nicole Holland, has been sentenced to probation in a United State’s District Court.
