Effort to redraw SC’s congressional districts continues at State House

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The effort to redraw South Carolina’s congressional districts continued Friday, May 8, 2026, at the State House.

The Judiciary Constitutional Laws Subcommittee heard testimony regarding a proposed mid-decade redrawing of the state’s seven districts.

The effort was sparked when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Louisiana redrawing its congressional map.

Supporters, like Attorney General Alan Wilson argue that redrawing the districts is fair, constitutional, and based on shared interest rather than race.

Opponents, like the American Civil Liberties Union argue the new map disenfranchises black voters and disrupts the primary process which is already underway.
