A Sumter PD officer initiated a traffic stop at about 12:43 p.m. on Alice Drive near Gion Street on June 10 when the pickup truck that was reported as stolen in Richland County sped away and crashed with two other vehicles.

Two passengers in the stolen pickup truck suffered injuries and were flown from the scene on Alice Drive just north of Broad Street to a Columbia hospital.

Both women, ages 43 and 53, both of Williamsburg County, remain in critical condition, says Sumter PD.

The driver who was identified as Shamona Nicole McFadden, 45, of Eastover, was treated for her injuries at Prisma Health Tuomey and was later booked at the county detention center on related charges.

No other injuries were reported.

McFadden is charged by Sumter PD with driving under suspension, possession of a stolen vehicle, providing false information to police and two counts of failure to stop for blue lights resulting in great bodily harm.

Records indicate McFadden was wanted on a bench warrant in Richland County and on a probation violation, according to the police dept.

The local investigation remains ongoing by the Sumter Police Department.

Also, the collision investigation is being conducted by an outside agency.

The S.C. Highway Patrol and its Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating the crash.
