SC Medicaid Agency May Add 70,000 Kids To Program

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The director of South Carolina's Medicaid agency wants to make it easier for low-income children who already qualify for health care coverage to enroll. Director Tony Keck is seeking an additional $35 million from the state in his 2012-13 budget proposal. Nearly $30 million of that would pay to add an estimated 70,000 children to Medicaid rolls by streamlining the application process.

Gasoline Thieves

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Orangeburg County deputies say thieves managed to pump about 2,200 gallons of premium gasoline from a gas station in five separate thefts this month.

President Says U.S. Troops Home by end of 2011

President Barack Obama says the Iraq war is at its end, and he's announcing that all U.S. troops will be withdrawn by year's end. Obama's statement put an end to months of wrangling over whether the U.S. would maintain a force in Iraq beyond 2011.

Dirty Diapers, Maggots Found in SC Home

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Spartanburg County deputies say they charged a woman with child neglect after finding dozens of soiled diapers and maggots in a home where she was caring for three children. Authorities said 24-year-old Mashana Goodwin was arrested Thursday at her home. She remains in the Spartanburg County jail and it wasn't clear if she had an attorney.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The Air Force says it is looking at South Carolina's Shaw Air Force Base as one of three possible sites to station a ground control squadron for its remote-controlled Reaper and Predator drones.

Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Fatal SC Shooting

YORK, S.C. (AP) _ A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting he shot and killed his uncle at a home in Clover. The Herald of Rock Hill reports, 25-year-old Otavis Bigger of Gastonia, N.C., pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter.

SC Primary Court

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina's Supreme Court agreed Wednesday to take a case challenging the state's authority to conduct the GOP's first-in-the-South presidential primary in January. Papers are due in court next week, but no hearing date has been set.

Florence Couple Charged After Baby's Death

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities have charged a Florence couple with homicide by child abuse after their 9-month-old child tested positive for cocaine and died. Florence County sheriff's deputies say 36-year-old Shaunte Shedice Washington and 25-year-old Jennifer Monique Ford were arrested Monday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The television show ``Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'' is looking for a South Carolina family to feature on its program. Producers of the ABC show want to remodel the home to improve the quality of life for a family in the state that couldn't afford the project otherwise.

Spurrier On Life Without Lattimore

USC Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier addressed the media Tuesday for the first time since the Gamecocks learned star sophomore running back Marcus Lattimore would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. "Obviously, the loss of Marcus is huge," Spurrier said. "It's huge for us, but we got to regroup and keep on playing."

SC Voter ID Law

South Carolina's new voter photo identification law appears to be hitting black precincts in the state the hardest. An Associated Press analysis of the impact of the new state law shows 10 precincts around the state where nonwhite voters make up almost all the voters who could be ineligible to cast a ballot under the new law.

An Armed Robbery SC Suspect Arrested
