Paced by first half goals from forwards Raina Johnson and Savannah McCaskill, the No. 17 South Carolina women’s soccer team (10-1-0, 4-0-0 SEC) pushed its winning streak to eight games with a 3-0 victory over Alabama (4-6-2, 1-3-0 SEC) on Sunday night at Stone Stadium.
The Clemson women’s soccer team picked up it’s second double overtime win this season after beating Miami (3-7-0, 0-3-0 ACC) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday. The win improves the fifth ranked Tigers record to 8-1-1, 2-1-0 in the ACC and was just the second win against Miami in Coral Gables, the first since October 11, 2006. Jenna Weston and Emily Byorth each recorded a goal in the victory.
The Tigers (5-9) made it interesting after falling behind one of the ACC’s biggest surprises this season in Syracuse (11-2). Clemson fought back to push the match to four sets but fell short of pulling off the comeback (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 22-25).
The South Carolina volleyball team closed its first weekend of SEC competition Sunday afternoon, losing at LSU 3-0. Attack errors held the Gamecocks (7-8, 0-2 SEC) back from holding onto key rallies, and the Tigers (5-8, 1-1) capitalized behind 14 kills from outside hitter Gina Tillis.
