Senator urges flag support with social media, fundraising

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — One of the Legislature's most ardent supporters of the Confederate battle flag says he will introduce an amendment that would allow South Carolina voters to decide whether the flag should fly over the Statehouse grounds.

Sheriff: Police officer hit girlfriend, shattered phones

LUGOFF, S.C. (AP) — Kershaw County deputies say an Elgin police officer has been charged with domestic violence after he hit his girlfriend, put a pillow over her face to keep her from screaming, threw her to the ground then smashed two phones to try to keep her from calling for help.
