Fireflies lose both games to Charleston in doubleheader

Columbia first baseman Jeremy Vasquez tallied four hits and drove in a pair of runs in Tuesday’s double header in Charleston. The lefty slugger recorded hits in both games which extended his on-base streak to a new franchise record 18 games in a row. Vasquez and the Fireflies dropped both games of the twin bill, though, at Joe Riley Park.

Jonah Bride had four hits, Carlos Cortes drove in four runs and Carmen Mlodzinskistruck out seven in seven innings of work as the University of South Carolina baseball team defeated Furman, 10-2, Tuesday night (April 27) to extend its winning streak to four games.

Jana Johns named SEC Freshman of the Week

For her performance last week, South Carolina softball’s Jana Johns has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today. Johns posted an impressive .500 on-base percentage in four games to help the Gamecocks to a sweep of Missouri.
