Fireflies rally to beat Tourists, 7-5 Thursday

Columbia outlasted Asheville in extras on Thursday night. The Fireflies scored twice in the top of the tenth and defeated the Tourists, 7-5, at McCormick Field. It was the first extra-inning game – and win – for Columbia in 2018.

The Fireflies produced a late-inning surge on Wednesday night at Spirit Communications Park. The squad trailed 3-2 after seven frames and then exploded with six runs in the eighth. Columbia defeated Hagerstown, 8-3, and claimed its first series win of the season.

No. 11 Gamecocks keep winning, blank Winthrop Wednesday night

No. 11 South Carolina softball used a combination of timely hitting and dominate pitching to earn a 7-0 win over Winthrop on Wednesday night at Terry Field. The pitching duo of Dixie Raley and Kelsey Oh allowed just four hits on the night while striking out eight. With the win, Carolina matched last season’s win total with 15 games remaining in the regular season. 

Clemson forward David Skara turning pro

Redshirt-junior forward David Skara will not return for his senior season and will instead pursue his dream of playing professional basketball, head coach Brad Brownell announced on Tuesday. Skara will graduate in May with a degree in economics.

The Gamecocks (No. 11/12) hit the road for a four-game road trip starting Wednesday in Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop at 6:00 PM ET. Following that game, the Gamecocks will close the week at No. 6 Florida in a battle between two top-3 SEC teams.
