Mark Lyons scored a season-high 20 points and No. 8 Arizona used a late second-half run to improve to 7-0 for the first time in 14 years with a 66-54 victory over Clemson on Saturday night.

The Tigers still have a bad taste in their mouth after losing to South Carolina a couple weeks ago, 27-17.

It is the second consecutive year that Freeman has been named a finalist and he is the only current center in college football who can make that claim.

This will be the highest ranked team Clemson has faced in a bowl game since the 2003 season when the Tigers upset sixth ranked Tennessee at the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

Sophomore forward K.J. McDaniels led Clemson with 16 points and seven boards. Sophomore guard Rod Hall registered 15 and senior center Devin Booker scored 13 and tallied a game-high eight rebounds in the contest. Clemson scored 23 points off of 19 Gamecock turnovers.

Devin Booker had 18 points to lead the Tigers. Bernard Sullivan started in place of the 6-foot-9 Jennings and missed both shots he attempted.

Jennings, a senior from Summerville, SC, is Clemson’s leading scorer (10.8 points per game) and second-leading rebounder (5.6 per game) through five games.

This is just the third time since the AFCA began selecting an All-America team in 1945 that the quarterback and center were from the same team. Clemson was one of four schools with at least two selections. Alabama had three, while Clemson, Texas A&M and Stanford had two apiece.

In a statement Wednesday, league Commissioner John Swofford said the addition of Louisville along with Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in the past year has made the league stronger.

Quarterback Tajh Boyd, running back Andre Ellington and receiver DeAndre Hopkins were Clemson's skill players on the first team. They were joined by tackle Brandon Thomas, center Dalton Freeman and tight end Brandon Ford.

Swinney has guided Clemson to a 10-2 record this year, a #14 ranking in the latest BCS poll and a #14 ranking in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Clemson made 10-of-12 three-point goals in the opening half to propel the Tigers to a 69-48 victory over UTEP in the second round of the Old Spice Classic at HP Field House. The Tigers, who moved to 3-1 with the victory, will face Marist in the fifth place game on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 11:30 AM.

Clemson got 10 points from Adonis Filer. Milton Jennings had six points and eight rebounds.

Tigers fans hope to get their first win over their arch-rival in Death Valley since 2008, when Clemson defeated USC 31-14 in Death Valley.
