“When something happens at a school, kids don’t hesitate to go to the SRO and tell them what’s going on or what somebody’s got,” Lott said.
The holidays will be merrier for many in the Midlands thanks to an annual holiday giving project organized by Richland Two Schools.
“We can put up metal detectors and create all kinds of policies and procedures. At the end of the day, if it is just us involved in that effort, we won’t be successful.”

“We can do better,” said Mayor Steve Benjamin. “We must do better. We have to work together.”
The governor’s stance has been consistent, as has that of Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin. Earlier this summer, he announced a city wide mask mandate for 43 elementary and middle schools in the city.
“I think it’s very clear that if we are not called back in, this is going to land in courts for them to make a decision,” said Rep. Russell Ott from St. Matthews. “All we’re simply saying is that’s not necessary.”
