South Carolinians receiving SNAP benefits are being reminded that emergency allotments are set to end tomorrow.
President Joe Biden’s administration has approved a significant and permanent increase in the levels of food aid available to needy families — the largest single increase in the program’s history. Starting in October, average benefits for food stamps will rise more than 25% above pre-pandemic levels.
Governor Henry McMaster and Department of Social Services Director Michael Leach announced that they extended the deadline for emergency supplements for the state’s elderly, young and at-risk population enrolled in SNAP.
Families will no longer receive maxed out emergency SNAP benefits beginning next month.
