(WOLO) LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C., — “There are going to be a lot of questions. Why? Why now? Why these children and some of these questions we will never be able to answer, but we’ve just got to have faith.” Those were the words of Red Bank Baptist Church Pastor, Jeff Wright as the church opened their doors to the community for a prayer vigil Monday night. The goal was not to hold a memorial as much as it was to help heal the heavy hearts of a hurting community. Pews were packed from front to back with former teachers, friends, Lexington Sheriff Lewis McCarty and even Senator Katrina Shealy. In many cases there were groups of people who’d never encountered the smiling faces of the five children found dead along the side of a Alabama Highway last week, but still felt compelled to come. ” when something like this happens it just knocks the breathe out of you. how do you get up and go on.” Pastor Wright says some families who did know the Jones family have already contacted him for counseling, many to help them explain the circumstances to their own children. While Lexington Sheriff Lewis Mcarty declined to comment on the ongoing investigation so he would not compromise the case, the Lexington county Corner says it will be another 4 weeks before we could know the exact cause of death. The children’s father, Timothy Jones Jr., accused in the deaths remains behind bars where he’s been placed on suicide watch.
