Clemson plans 1,400 student apartment complex

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson University is building an apartment village that will house up to 1,400 students when it opens in three years.

The school says the $123 million complex will include rooms for students studying at a nearby technical college who plan to transfer to Clemson.

Planning director Gerald Vander Mey says upperclassmen and graduate students will get 700 beds in the apartments. The other 700 beds will go to students participating in the Bridge to Clemson program for students at Tri-County Technical College.

Tri-County Technical College President Ronnie Booth says the apartment village will help his students make the transition to the university-setting.

The apartments will have their own bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms.

Vander Mey says the complex will include stores and restaurants.
