Become a hero for a Midlands girl living with Sanfilippo syndrome Saturday at the Super Eliza 5K!

Saturday, you have a chance to lace up your running shoes and be a super hero for a Midlands girl. Eliza O’Neill is a young girl living with Sanfilippo syndrome, a rare genetic metabolism disorder that can lead to problems in the brain and nervous system. Friday morning, the Sanfilippo Foundation, headed up by Eliza’s dad, will hold a 5K Friday at 8 a.m. to raise money for treatment for Eliza and other children like her.

Governor Henry McMaster to visit U.S. southern border Friday

Friday, Governor Henry McMaster is visiting South Carolina National Guard soldiers serving on the southern border in Texas. During the governor’s visit, he’s expected to receive in-person briefings from senior military leadership in charge of federal efforts to secure the southern border.

Columbia Housing outlines goals for the next five years

City leaders want to improve the the way housing can be seen in Columbia. Columbia’s Housing Committee met Thursday via Zoom and outlined its plans for the coming year as well as the agency goals for the next five years. That includes the beautification of Columbia neighborhoods and projects to rebuild old or abandoned buildings.

DHEC says the best vaccine available is the one in your arm

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control wants to remind all South Carolinians that the best vaccine you can get is the one in your arm. During their board meeting Thursday, health officials say nearly seven million COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state, and more than 2.3 million vaccines have been administered.
