RCSD announces arrest in deadly weekend shooting on South Beltline Boulevard

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says they arrested an individual in connection with a weekend shooting on South Beltline Boulevard that left a man dead. Deputies say they arrested 22-year-old Ahmad Cook II and charged him with the murder of 27-year-old Charles Fulk and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Eliza O’Neill is a young girl living with Sanfilippo syndrome, a rare genetic metabolism disorder that can lead to problems in the brain and nervous system. Friday morning, the Sanfilippo Foundation, headed up by Eliza’s dad, will hold a 5K Friday at 8 a.m. to raise money for treatment for Eliza and other children like her.

Columbia Fire Department reports significant damage after fire at mechanic shop on Houston Street Thursday

Columbia Fire officials say no one was hurt in a fire at a mechanic shop Thursday night. Authorities say it happened before 7:30 p.m. at the shop on Houston Street. According to officials, the fire caused significant damages.

Prisma Health terminates plans to buyout Providence Health and Kershaw Health

Prisma Health will no longer move forward with plans to buyout Providence Health, Providence Health Northeast in Columbia and Kershaw Health in Camden. Prisma announced Friday they will not pursue plans to acquire those systems, in addition to a freestanding emergency room in Fairfield County.

Friday morning around 10 a.m., the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office Says Timothy Deandre Bennett, 27, turned himself in to authorities. Deputies say Bennett was wanted in connection with a shooting that took place at the Hermitage Mobile Home Community on Wednesday night.
