March is Social Work Month, both nationally and here in South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster made the declaration earlier this month. Tuesday morning, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette discussed the importance of social workers at the Statehouse.
On Tuesday, Governor Henry McMaster announced that $6 million in the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) funds will go towards establishing eight community computer labs throughout the state. The governor says the funds were awarded to the University of South Carolina, who will partner with Benedict College to create these Apple computer labs.

On Tuesday, Governor Henry McMaster named Ben Duncan as the first director of the South Carolina Office of Resilience. As Chief Resilience Officer, Duncan will be responsible for overseeing grant programs that help repair and rebuild homes damaged by extreme weather events, such as the 2015 flooding or Hurricane Florence in 2019.
