Several states are ending mask mandates for schools and indoor spaces, but some public health experts aren’t so sure it’s a good idea just yet.
California is dropping its statewide indoor mask mandate for vaccinated people starting next week. Four other states are planning to end statewide school mask requirements in the coming weeks.
With positive COVID-19 cases decreasing across most of the country, some governors are announcing plans to roll back mask mandates.
The Fairfield County School District Board of Trustees voted for a mask mandate for all students, teachers, staff and visitors, regardless of their vaccination status.
The White House estimates that nearly 1 million kids ages 5-11 have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose so far. This comes as school mask mandates start to disappear in some school districts, leading experts to encourage more parents to get their children vaccinated.
“We are well versed in hurricane season here. I don’t know if we are in the eye of the storm or if the storm has fully passed,” Dr. Knoche said.
Masks will continue to be required in Orangeburg.
A mask mandate in Lexington School District Two won’t be extended, at least for now.
