Beginning Thursday, officials with Richland School District Two say students and employees will be required to wear face coverings in schools.

The governor’s stance has been consistent, as has that of Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin. Earlier this summer, he announced a city wide mask mandate for 43 elementary and middle schools in the city.
“I think it’s very clear that if we are not called back in, this is going to land in courts for them to make a decision,” said Rep. Russell Ott from St. Matthews. “All we’re simply saying is that’s not necessary.”
The Richland Two Board of Trustees will hold a special called meeting today to discuss the debate over masks and receive legal advice.
The school boards of both Richland One and Richland Two will host meetings tonight to discuss topics including mask wearing.
Richland School District Two is teaming up with Providence Health-Northeast to give its students a leg up in health care studies.
