South Carolina Department of Corrections to install air purifiers for inmate safety
The South Carolina Department of Corrections is spending close to one million dollars on air purifiers to combat the spread of COVID-19 in prisons.
Starting tomorrow, the Department of Corrections will begin phase one of in-person visitation for vaccinated inmates at certain prisons. Those include the Palmer, Livesay, Goodman and Manning institutions.
Some state prisons will reopen for in-person visits this month. The Department of Corrections says visitation will resume June 19 for vaccinated inmates at minimum security facilities across the state.
As of Monday, the South Carolina Department of Corrections says there have been 42 inmate deaths related to the coronavirus. Officials say the latest death was a 62-year-old inmate from the McCormick Correctional Institution.
