SC governor vetoes NIL Bill
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster has vetoed a bill that would have kept collegiate name, image or likeness payments private and exempt them from public record requests.
In his veto message, McMaster said the bill goes too far in its efforts to conceal contracts, and while it has merit to protect individual student-athletes it’s “the right of the people to know how public funds are being spent.”
The bill goes back to the legislature which can override the veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers.
