Six-month-old girl dead, infant’s father in jail

Newberry College holds march, rally for Ukraine

As Russian President Vladmir Putin continues to wage war on Ukraine, a college in the Midlands wants to do what it can to stand with the Ukrainian people. Students and faculty from Newberry College marched from the main entrance of campus to the Center for Teacher Education a few blocks away, carrying Ukrainian flags along the way.

Disruption at DJJ leaves employee injured, property damaged

A disturbance at The Department of Juvenile Justice Complex on Broad River Road has left one staff member and one youth injured. At around 9am, multiple youths at DJJ’s Birchwood School broke away from their campus and assaulted a staff member. The youths also confiscated hammers and damaged multiple vehicles and other property during the disturbance.

DHEC reports first flu-related death of season, health officials encourage flu shot

Officials from South Carolina DHEC and Prisma Health are encouraging everyone to get the flu shot as soon as possible. “We’ve definitely seen a dramatic jump in the number of flu cases this year than any recent flu season. So in the last 8 years, we never really started above the baseline level of flu illnesses, and we’re already above that baseline here in the very first week of flu season,” says Dr. Knoche.
