Gamecocks make changes to baseball schedule

Due to expected below freezing temperatures in the Midlands on Tuesday and Wednesday night, the Gamecock baseball team’s two midweek games against The Citadel (Tuesday, March 5) and Gardner-Webb (Wednesday, March 6) at Founders Park have been moved.

The Claflin University men’s basketball team will open play in their first-ever Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship Tournament on Wednesday (Feb. 27) against Johnson C. Smith University at the Bojangles’ Coliseum.

After losing to Alabama, the Gamecocks are now off the bubble in ESPN’s Bracketology, meaning if the season ended today, USC would not make the NCAA Tournament. Fortunately for the Gamecocks, there are three more games left to play, plus an SEC Tournament, so Frank Martin doesn’t want anyone rushing to conclusions after Tuesday night’s loss to the Tide.

No. 14 Clemson erupted for a season-high 15 hits in its 14-3 victory over East Tennessee State at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers, who won their fifth game in a row, improved to 7-1, while the Buccaneers dropped to 6-2.
