The second season of the Mark Kingston era starts in a little more than three weeks when the Gamecocks host Liberty at Founders Park. Kingston inaugural season at USC was outstanding. His Gamecocks advanced to the Super Regionals, before falling to Arkansas in three games. On Wednesday during media day, the second-year USC head coach had a message for his team following last year’s run to the postseason: “Don’t panic.”

The Atlanta Braves today agreed to terms with OF Nick Markakis on a one-year contract for the 2019 season worth $4 million. The deal also includes a club option for 2020 worth $6 million. The Braves’ 40-man roster is now full.
A Gamecock running back is looking at transferring, according to USC Tuesday.
Fireflies fans can expect to see Pedro Lopez back in the Fireflies dugout this season as manager, but he will be only one of two familiar faces on Columbia’s coaching staff this season. 2019 will be Lopez’s second season managing the Fireflies and his 12th season with the New York Mets. In his first season in Columbia he led the team to a 64-70 record.
USC is hiring an assistant coach away from a fellow SEC school.
The Gamecocks baseball team will begin full team practice this weekend with three scrimmages at Founders Park. All scrimmages are free and open to the public.
