September is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. According to the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association someone around the world is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease about every three seconds. Six million Americans and about 95,000 South Carolinians live with the disease.
June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month and you can help raise awareness on the disease in South Carolina.
“I used to work. I used to drive. I used to cook. I could cook in my own home by myself,” said Missy Callahan, Midlands women who lives with Alzheimer’s.
“I try to keep my independence as much as I can and live life to the fullest every day. I don’t take one thing for granted anymore,” she said.
