Justice Dept. sues Texas over state’s new abortion law

The Justice Department on Thursday sued Texas over a new state law that bans most abortions, arguing that it was enacted “in open defiance of the Constitution.” The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Texas, asks a federal judge to declare that the law is invalid, “to enjoin its enforcement, and to protect the rights that Texas has violated.”

South Carolina to receive more than $2.5 million in DOJ grants to combat addiction crisis

U.S. Attorney Peter M. McCoy Jr. announced that the District of South Carolina is the recipient of more than $2.5 million in grants from the Department of Justice to fight drug abuse and addiction in the state. These grants come as a part of the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs which are providing over $341 million across the nation to combat addiction.
