But then just before a final vote on the bill, House Republican stripped the ban from the bill, leaving it only banning COVID-19 vaccine mandates for state and local government employees, contractors and public school students.
The first president of the South Carolina Senate stepped aside from his role overseeing the entire chamber to became chairman of the committee that writes the state budget.
Governor Henry McMaster has also ordered the flag atop the Statehouse and at state government buildings to fly at half staff until sundown Thursday in honor of Senator Bob Dole.

The South Carolina House has overwhelmingly approved its new districts that appear to maintain Republican dominance in the chamber and protect many, but not all, incumbents.
House members approved a resolution Wednesday requiring them to take up redistricting as their first priority and stay on the bill until it gets all the way through the legislative process.

Tomorrow inside the Statehouse, lawmakers are set to debate whether to override Governor Henry McMaster’s vetoes. Last week, the governor announced 15 line item vetoes in the state’s $11 billion budget.
