Supreme Court Sides With Columbia in Housing Suit

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The South Carolina Supreme Court has unanimously upheld a Columbia ordnance that limits houses to just three unrelated people. Peggy McMaster, wife of former state Attorney General Henry McMaster, took the issue to the high court after she was issued a zoning violation when city officials found four unrelated University of South Carolina students living in a single-family home.

SC Man Gets 30 Years for Killing Grandmother

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) _ A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the stabbing death of his child's grandmother. Prosecutors said that Jasper County jurors found Antonio Scott guilty Wednesday of one count of murder in Cynthia Nelson's death.

Greenville Deputies Release Shooting Victim's Name

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Greenville County authorities have released the name of a woman shot to death at her home. Deputy Coroner Kent Dill says 53-year-old Yolanda Kim Thurston was found in a bedroom of her home early Monday morning. Dill says he thinks Thurston was found several hours after she was shot.

(AP) _ A Jasper County man has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting he beat his girlfriend to death The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/uwSHoi ) that 46-year-old Terry Swanger pleaded guilty Monday to murder, the same day jury selection in his trial was set to start.

SC Court: Injury Risk Comes with Contact Sports

South Carolina's Supreme Court has ruled people playing contact sports assume the risk they will be injured. The high court on Monday upheld a lower court's ruling that a man who was injured in a 2004 pickup softball game during a Boy Scouts camping trip in Sumter should have known he could be hurt.
