"With that one remaining dog still not found yet, we do have law enforcement officers patrolling the state forest as well as Harbison State Forest staff and personnel checking the traps throughout the day regularly," says Stewart.
"Greater than 97% of cases that have occurred since the 1960's have been fatal. There have only been four cases in the U.S. who have lived -- and those who live have variable outcomes," says Dr. Burch.
A dog that is believed to be involved in a recent attack at Harbison State Forest was shot and killed overnight, according to the SC Forestry Commission.
