Dabo Swinney said Sunday leading rusher Adam Choice will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL on a first quarter run against Boston College Saturday. The freshman from Thomasville, GA had 50 carries for 218 rushing yards and one touchdown on the season.

Former Clemson standout defensive end Andre Branch injured his groin Sunday in the fourth quarter of Jacksonville's first win of the season, 24-6 over Cleveland. Branch left the game and did not return. After the game he left the locker room on crutches. No more details on the injury were available Sunday night.

Clemson senior punter returner Adam Humphries is the ACC specialist of the week. Humphries had eight punt returns for 107 yards, including a 72-yard return for a touchdown in the Tigers’ 23-17 win over visiting Louisville.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Sunday that freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson will have four screws put in his finger to heal a small broken bone and will need a month of recovery before returning for the 24th-ranked Tigers. Swinney said Watson would have the procedure Monday. The first-year starter hurt the finger on his right, throwing hand in the second quarter of a 23-17 victory over Louisville on Saturday. Clemson freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson again heads the list of Atlantic Coast Conference football accolades, as he was voted ACC Offensive Back of the Week for the second week in a row and received his third straight ACC Rookie of the Week honor. Watson was recognized after leading the Tigers to a 41-0 win over visiting NC State. Sophomore Mike Williams, Watson’s favorite target in Saturday’s victory, earned ACC Receiver of the Week honors. Florida State and Virginia Tech also had two players apiece recognized.

Men’s basketball officially gets underway Sunday with a two-hour practice, Clemson’s first in preparation for the 2014-15 season. The Tigers have been preparing for practice with individual and team workouts over the last month. The team’s annual preseason tipoff event, Rock the ‘John, is set for Friday, Oct. 10. The Tigers hold their only public exhibition against Anderson on Saturday, Nov. 8 before opening the regular season against Florida A&M on Friday, Nov. 14.

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has been named the National Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Award. Watson completed 27-36 passes for 435 yards and six touchdowns in Clemson’s win over North Carolina. It was Watson’s first career start at quarterback for the Tigers.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson and punter Bradley Pinion were both honored with player-of-the-week selections by the ACC on Monday. Watson was named co-offensive back-of-the-week along with NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett, while Watson also earned rookie-of-the-week honors. Pinion was named co-special teams player-of-the-week with Justin Vogel of Miami (Fla.).
