The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is this Saturday at Segra Park, 1640 Freed Street in Columbia.
In recent years, Susan’s mother has suffered with Alzheimer’s and she says it has taken a toll on her family in many ways.

Missy Callahan was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in March of 2019. She has since had to quit her job in finance because of the disease.
September is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. According to the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association someone around the world is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease about every three seconds. Six million Americans and about 95,000 South Carolinians live with the disease.
“I try to keep my independence as much as I can and live life to the fullest every day. I don’t take one thing for granted anymore,” she said.
You can join the walk to end Alzheimer’s disease this Saturday. The Alzheimer’s Association says the opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. on their website, and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
