Last month, several families voluntarily moved out of their apartments at St. Andrew’s Terrace due to a gas leak. Columbia Housing says the gas appliances have been replaced with electric ones, and all the families have now returned to their homes.
A spokesperson for Columbia Housing says residents at Saint Andrews Terrace apartments were given the option whether to evacuate or not due to a gas leak. Officials say the families that chose to remain in their units will be given a $500 stipend to cover inconveniences like not being able to use the stove or hot water.
In a release sent out on Friday, Columbia Housing said that they are voluntarily relocating 24 families out of St. Andrews Terrace Apartment after the Columbia Fire Department detected a gas leak.
According to Lexington-Richland School District Five, a gas leak was reported Wednesday morning at Irmo Middle School. Officials say no students were in the building as Wednesday’s are a distance learning day for the district, but staff members at Irmo Middle and CrossRoads Intermediate were evacuated.
