After a long year battling the coronavirus pandemic, South Carolinians can now take another big step closer to a more normal life. Today, Governor Henry McMaster ended the state’s COVID-19 state of emergency.
Gov. Henry McMaster has ended South Carolina’s ongoing pandemic-related state of emergency. The Republican said during a news conference Monday that the coronavirus situation in the state had improved to the point that it was no longer necessary.

Employees at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice walked off the job this morning. Some teachers and security staff stood outside the facility, saying they’ve had enough with the long hours, pay and poor working conditions. DJJ Director Freddie Pough spoke with protesters for a little over an hour outside DJJ Friday afternoon. Gov. McMaster acknowledged their are issues in the department but said a walk out is not the way to go about achieving change.

A South Carolina bill letting people with concealed weapons permits carry their guns in the open is heading to Gov. Henry McMaster’s desk. The House approved the bill 83-34 Wednesday and signed off changes made by the Senate to the bill.
