At the State House, lawmakers recognized South Carolina State University Day.
South Carolina State University is moving its Spring 2022 Commencement to the Smith Hammond Middleton Memorial Center because of potential storms.
“You’re not a number. Your professors are there for you. The opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities is very important,” said Phyllis Thompson, NACDRAO executive secretary.

Officials with South Carolina State University say they are mourning the loss of one student and a recent graduate of the university after a crash Friday morning. Officials say three other students were injured in the crash.

Things came to a flash point on February 8th when 3 African American males were shot and killed by South Carolina Highway Patrol officers. Twenty-eight others were injured.
With inclement weather expected in the Midlands, South Carolina State University says all classes will be conducted virtually Friday, January 21.
In response to President Biden’s trip to SC State’s graduation ceremony, SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick said “Joe Biden conveniently failed to mention that his policies and failed leadership have resulted in sky high inflation, unprecedented surges at the southern border, and Americans killed and stranded in Afghanistan.”
Biden is coming to Orangeburg on Friday as the featured speaker at the graduation ceremonies at a historically Black university, South Carolina State.
