Cooke named finalist for Naismith Player of the Year

Gamecock women's basketball signee Zia Cooke was named a national finalist for the Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Girls' Player of the Year Award, announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club today.

Frank Martin and the Gamecocks have five games left (four in the regular season and at least one in the SEC Tournament) to prove to the NCAA Tournament committee they belong in March's Big Dance. For her efforts in the four games over the past week, South Carolina softball's Jana Johns has been named Co-SEC Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Johns shares the weekly honor with Arkansas' Danielle Gibson.

Campbell leads Gamecocks to walk-off win over Utah Valley

Sophomore Noah Campbell took a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right field for a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth as the University of South Carolina baseball team walked off Utah Valley, 6-5, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 23) at Founders Park. Campbell helped the Gamecocks win their second game of the year in walk-off fashion.

No. 14 South Carolina softball used an eight-run fifth earning to earn its fifth-run rule win in its last six games in a 10-1 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Jana Johns blasted a three-run home run, her third of the year, to end the contest via run rule with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Drotar named SEC Player of the Week

For her efforts in the team's four games over the weekend, South Carolina softball's Cayla Drotar has been named SEC Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Drotar posted a team-best 12 RBI at the plate and went 2-0 in the circle to help the Gamecocks sweep the Gamecock Invitational. 

Gamecocks Clinch Series Win Over Liberty with Walk-Off Wild Pitch

The University of South Carolina baseball team gave up two first-inning runs, but battled back to tie the game in the middle frames, then walk-off Liberty, 3-2, on a wild pitch with no one out in the ninth, claiming the series win Sunday afternoon.
