A law enforcement veteran who served as police chief in Columbia for more than a decade will be the interim chief of the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety.
According to South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, an Orangeburg County man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child.
Sunday night, troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a person was struck and killed while crossing US 321 near Lexington Avenue in Orangeburg.
South Carolina transportation officials want to hear from the public about a project to widen part of Interstate 26 and improve one of the state’s key interchanges. The state is spending $19 million on preliminary engineering work to widen 22 miles of I-26 in Orangeburg, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
“We’ve gotten multiple reports of bill payments being taken from mailboxes,” said Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. “Those checks are then altered from their intended use and the money is taken from the victim’s account.”
A grower-owned peanut shelling company said it plans to set up operations in South Carolina’s Orangeburg County. Premium Peanut said it plans a $64.3 million investment that will create 130 new jobs.
SC State University announced all employees and students will be required to undergo biweekly COVID-19 testing as part of the effort to curb the spread of the virus.
