Despite great defense, Fireflies drop fifth-straight

Luc Rennie made his first professional start in more than two years and was tremendous on Sunday afternoon. The righty tossed seven innings and fanned seven batters. However the strong effort wasn’t enough as Columbia fell 9-6 to Charleston at Spirit Communications Park.

Drive take second-straight from Fireflies

Catcher Carlos Sanchez finally introduced himself to the city of Columbia. In just his fourth start as a Firefly, the 22-year-old tallied a season-high three hits and knocked in a run. The Fireflies fell to the Greenville Drive, though, on Thursday, 4-2.

Quinn Brodey’s go-ahead home run in the eighth on Tuesday delivered Columbia a 2-1 series-clinching victory over Augusta. The Fireflies defeated the GreenJackets three times during the four-game set and are now 7-5 in the second half.
