Former Clemson standout George Kitchens continued the momentum he built from the 2012 season which saw him earn a spot in the London Olympics on Sunday by winning the USA Championship in the men’s long jump on Sunday in Des Moines, IA. His victory was the first USA Outdoor crown for a former Clemson men’s track & field athlete since Shawn Crawford captured the 200 dash at the 2009 meet.
Former Clemson standout Brianna Rollins, running in her first professional meet, ran to an American record in the 100 hurdles on Saturday at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, IA. She raced to a time of 12.26, breaking Gail Devers’ record of 12.33 that had stood since 2000. Rollins won the USA crown, only the second in history for a Tiger female in any event.
Clemson rising freshman Ashlan Ramsey won the WWGA National Amateur Championship on Saturday at Dayton Country Club in Dayton, OH. Ramsey won five rounds of match play throughout the week en route to Saturday’s championship match, in which she defeated Jenna Hauge, a rising junior at Ball State.
Legendary coaches Bill Wilhelm and Danny Ford will be inducted into the Clemson Athletics Ring of Honor this fall. Both will be recognized at a Clemson home football game this season. Wilhelm, who will be inducted posthumously, also will be honored at a Clemson baseball game next spring.
The home radio booth at Clemson Memorial Stadium will be named in honor of Jim Phillips at a home football game this fall. Phillips was the “Voice of the Tigers” for 35 years between 1968 and 2003. He died suddenly the Monday after broadcasting the Clemson vs. Furman game in Memorial Stadium on September 8, 2003.
Clemson Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich has been named to an Athletic Director Advisory Group to the NCAA leadership by NCAA President Mark Emmert. Radakovich, who is in his first year at Clemson, was one of 10 named to the committee. This ad hoc group will meet periodically with NCAA leadership to provide feedback and perspective on issues affecting Division I athletics.

She blew away the field to a time of 12.39, one of the top times in history by an American athlete, to lead Clemson's women to a ninth-place team finish. The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced all schools' football rotating crossover opponents through the year 2024. For the foreseeable future, all ACC schools will play an eight-game conference schedule composed of six games against division teams, a permanent crossover division game and a rotating crossover game.
