Former Clemson All-American George Kitchens became the first athlete with ties to Clemson track & field to qualify for the Team USA squad headed to London, England this summer for the Olympic Games. Kitchens, who jumped for the Tigers from 2002-05, surpassed the “A” standard for London with a personal best jump of 26’11.25” on his third attempt Sunday at Oregon’s Hayward Field and finished in third place at the Olympic Trials.

Clemson Athletic Director Dr. Terry Don Phillips announced Thursday that Head Coach Dabo Swinney has agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension that will keep him as leader of the Tigers program through the 2017 season.

Junior catcher Spencer Kieboom (Marietta, GA) and junior righthander Kevin Brady (Gaithersburg, MD) were selected on day-two of the Major League Draft on Tuesday. Kieboom was a fifth-round pick ( #174 overall) of the Washington Nationals, while Brady was a 10th-round pick (#338 overall) of the Philadelphia Phillies. They joined corner infielder Richie Shaffer, who was a first-round pick of the Rays on Monday, as the three Tigers chosen on the first two days (rounds 1-10) of the MLB draft.

Junior corner infielder Richie Shaffer (Charlotte, NC) was selected in the first round of the Major League draft on Monday night. Shaffer was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays with the #25 overall pick. He became the first-ever Tiger drafted by the Rays.

Clemson remained alive in the 2012 NCAA Columbia Regional with a 5-3 victory over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. With the victory, the Tigers (35-27) advance to face rival South Carolina today in game six at 4:34 p.m. on ESPNU. The Chanticleers are eliminated and wrap up their season with a 42-19 record.

USC, Clemson, Coastal Carolina and Manhattan all practiced at Carolina Stadium Thursday in preparation for this weekend's Columbia NCAA Regional. Clemson will open up play Friday at noon against Coastal. The Gamecocks will play Manhattan at 4 p.m.

Former Clemson standout defensive end signed his first NFL contract Tuesday. The four year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars is worth a reported $5.1 million. Branch was the team's second-round draft pick, taken 38th overall.

Branden Cogswell walked with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, and Virginia rallied to beat Clemson 3-2 in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament.

Four Tigers were named First or Second-Team All-ACC in 2012. Senior designated hitter Phil Pohl and junior third-baseman Richie Shaffer were both named First-Team All-ACC, while junior outfielder Thomas Brittle and sophomore second-baseman Steve Wilkerson were named Second-Team All-ACC. The team was compiled by a vote of the 12 ACC head coaches.

Former Clemson wide receiver Brian Wofford died Friday morning when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident in Moore, SC. Wofford, 34, was struck by an automobile at the intersection of Reidville Road and Plateau Street near Highway 417 at 11:15 AM.

The ACC announced Thursday early football game times and television networks. Clemson will host Ball St. on Sept. 8 at 12:30 on the ACC Network. The next week the Tigers will host Furman at 3 p.m. on the Raycom Sports Network.

Mike Bellamy, the second leading rusher on Clemson's 2011 ACC Championship team, will not return to Clemson for the 2012 season. The freshman from Nocatee, FL has been ruled academically ineligible for the fall semester and plans to enter a junior college this summer.

The Seminoles, who clinched the ACC Atlantic Division title win the victory, improved to 41-11 overall and 22-5 in the ACC. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, fell to 31-21 overall and 16-11 in ACC play.

Clemson scored nine combined runs in the first four innings and held on for a 9-7 victory over #1 Florida State in the first game of a doubleheader at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Tigers, who took a 2-0 series lead, improved to 31-20 overall and 16-10 in the ACC. The Seminoles fell to 40-11 overall and 21-5 in ACC play. Clemson's 31st win of the year also assured the Tigers of a final winning record for the 48th consecutive season and a final non-losing record for the 55th straight year.

Former Clemson and Spring Valley standout Jonathan Byrd shot a final round of even par to finish the Players Championship six under par. That earned him a tie for 12th and almost $200,000 in prize money. Matt Kuchar won the Players by two shots finishing 13 under.

Tampa Bay defensive end Da'Quan Bowers has torn his right Achilles tendon during an offseason workout and will undergo surgery. The second-year pro out of Clemson was a second-round pick in the 2011 draft. He started six of his 16 games as a rookie, finishing with 25 tackles.

he Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN have extended their television deal through the 2026-27 season. The ACC and the network announced the extension Wednesday. A person familiar with the agreement told The Associated Press that it's worth $3.6 billion over the 15 years. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because financial terms weren't released when the two sides announced the deal.

College of Charleston took advantage of three Tiger errors to score two unearned runs, which proved to be the difference in the Cougars' 4-2 victory over Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Cougars improved to 32-15 on the season and won their first contest against the Tigers in 24 all-time meetings. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, fell to 28-20.
