Tougher Penalties for First Time DUI's Sought

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) testified today in front of the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Subcommittee in support of legislation which would require all convicted drunk drivers to ‘blow before they go’ by using an ignition interlock on their vehicle. They believe legislation, S 746, authored by Senator Joel Lourie, would help save lives and stop drunk driving.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has signed a bill that sets up the office of the state inspector general to investigate allegations of fraud, waste and abuse in state government.

Suspect Named in Killing of Teen in Aiken County

NEW ELLENTON, S.C. (AP) _ Aiken County deputies say they have a suspect in the killing of a teen whose body was found buried in a shallow grave over the weekend. Deputies got a murder warrant Tuesday for 24-year-old Christopher Parker. Authorities say 18-year-old Huran Dix was shot over a stolen income check.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ A federal judge has ruled that a South Carolina company's lawsuit against a former employee over Twitter followers can go forward.
