The Sumter Police Department says one person is in custody, and they are looking for another wanted in connection with a shooting that left a man dead outside a vacant home on South Sumter Street Thursday morning.
According to the Department of Justice, a Columbia man pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A statement from Director Hendrick today says staff were notified of a teen possibly armed with a loaded gun at the facility, after the 13-year-old had already been patted down, showered and changed into facility clothes. Staff immediately responded and took the weapon.
