DHEC: Rabid skunk found in Newberry Co.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control says a skunk found in Prosperity, SC tested positive for rabies. DHEC says the skunk was located near Seibert Road and Leisure Point Road and was submitted for a rabies test in a DHEC lab on October 18, the test came back positive the next day.

Police asking for the public's help in solving murder of a Barnwell man

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Barnwell County Police and Midlands Crimestoppers need the public's help in solving the murder of Isiah Lynwood Thomas. Authorities say Thomas's body was discovered on April 13, his 21st birthday, in the wood line on Corley Avenue in Barnwell.

Two charged in conspiracy to steal personal protective equipment from Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

According to U.S. Attorney Peter M. McCoy Jr., two individuals have been charged in federal court for conspiring to steal personal protective equipment from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston. Authorities say Frank Smail, Jr., 49, and Mike Pellegrini, 58, who both worked at the FLETC, have been charged in the conspiracy. Authorities say Smail also faces charges of PPE theft, obstruction of justice, and lying to federal agents.

SLED: Former Orangeburg Co. deputy charged with multiple offenses

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says a former Orangeburg County deputy was arrested during an off-duty altercation. Investigators say 29-year-old Tajah Champagne Lawton was charged with public disorderly conduct and malicious injury to personal property.ย
